Thomas Whiteley was found not guilty of murder by jury in Mold Crown Court following a seven week trial before a High court Judge. Mr Whiteley was present in the home of Mark Wilcox when he was repeatedly stabbed, kicked and struck with a bottle sadly dying as a result of his injuries. Mr Whiteley left the scene with two co-defendants before discarding his phone and clothing, initially claiming to have been a victim of robbery. He admitted presence but denied participation stating that he was in fear of the other two attackers. The case involved a careful analysis of detailed forensic evidence. Mr Whiteley instructed JW Hughes and Co as solicitors. James Coutts was led by Owen Edwards KC. The jury were persuaded that Mr Whiteley was a witness rather than a participant in what was clearly a murderous attack. His co-defendants Lauren Harris and David Webster were both found guilty and received life sentences with minimum terms of 25 and 23 years respectively.
