Owen Edwards leading James Coutts and Ember Wong, all of Linenhall Chambers, successfully prosecuted notorious paedophile Barry Bennell on further charges relating to his abuse of young footballers. Barry Bennell who was involved in training youth footballers linked to Manchester City, Crewe Alexandria and Stoke City was described by the Judge as ‘a parent’s worst nightmare’. The latest case related to two young victims who were sexually abused by Bennell in the 1980s and 1990s. Mr Bennell’s sentence was extended to a total, including licence period, of 36 years imprisonment following a hearing before HHJ Thompson at Chester Crown Court on the 8th October 2020.
