Richard Edwards of Linenhall Chambers prosecuted the case of Rebecca Williams, a school teaching assistant who had sex with a 15-year-old boy, after telling him “You’re fit” and “Age is just a number”.

The court heard that the defendant contacted the boy online and exchanged flirtatious messages, some of which were on school grounds. The pair kissed and had sex and the boy stayed with Williams overnight. Mr. Edwards said Williams wanted more of a relationship, but the victim ended up blocking her on messaging apps.

A 12-month suspended sentence with rehabilitation and 150 hours unpaid work was handed to Williams, who showed no emotion in the dock, from Judge Nicola Saffman. In addition to this, Williams must pay £576, cannot work with children again and must register as a sex offender for 10 years. Judge Saffman told Williams “You knew was you were doing. You were working up to engage in a sexual relationship with him”
