A drug addict who stamped 69 year old grandmother to death in her own home unanimously convicted of murder after 3 week trial in Caernarfon CC.
James Coutts, led by Andrew Jones KC and instructed by CPS North Wales, successfully prosecuted the case of a drug addict who broke into the house of a vulnerable lady he did not know, dragged her out of her bed and stamped on her face up to 15 times. The injuries caused were horrific, with the pathology evidence comparing the injuries to those seen in high speed road traffic collisions and being described as breaking every bone in her face.
The defendant said he had no memory of the incident and maintained that he acted as he did due to an abnormality of mental functioning. He tried to run the defence of diminished responsibility. After hearing evidence from psychiatrists, the jury saw through this and convicted him of her murder.
He will be sentenced in June.
