Clare Bate of Linenhall Chambers prosecuted Dean Saunders, a former premier league and international football player, for failing to provide a breath specimen after being stopped by police while driving his vehicle in Chester. Mr Saunders, 53, a father of three was said to be unsteady on his feet and slurring his speech when he was pulled over by the police in May 2019. He failed to provide a breath specimen at the roadside and again at the police station.
After initially pleading not guilty to two charges brought against him, Mr Saunders decided on the morning of his trial, to plead guilty. He was sentenced to 10 weeks in custody.
