Anthony specialises in family law, particularly in children public law matters. He regularly represents parents, other family members, and children by their Children’s Guardians, in the Family Court and High Court, in North and Mid Wales, Cheshire, Shropshire, and the Midlands.
His main interest is in care cases, involving non-accidental injury, physical and sexual abuse (including shaken baby cases), incest, and neglect.
He also has experience of cases involving removing children from the jurisdiction, cases with a foreign element, relocation, and change of name. He has a patient approach with lay clients, tempering sympathy with realism.
Anthony was originally in chambers in Liverpool, for seven years, in general practice. He moved to the Chester Bar in 1981, combining Family and Criminal work, until he gave up crime to specialise in family work.
Represented a father in a NAI case before McFarlane J (reported).
Represented a mother who had seriously sexually abused her baby.
Represented the Special Guardians, the relatives of a mother who had been murdered by the father, against leading counsel for the local authority.
Previously been led by silks in the High Court and the Court of Appeal in care cases.
