Assault & Violent Crime

The expert team of criminal barristers at Linenhall Chambers has deep experience and a strong track record of both prosecution and defence of assault and violent crime.

They act on behalf of public authorities in the prosecution of assault and violent crime offences as well as defending individuals charged with such offences.

Many of the criminal barristers at Linenhall Chambers are appointed as category 3 and 4 prosecutors and they have close working relationships with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) as well as with police authorities, local authorities and other organisations prosecuting individuals across the full range of violent crime offences including but not limited to:

  • Actual bodily harm (ABH)
  • Affray
  • Aggravated burglary
  • Aggravated criminal damage and arson
  • Assault against a police or prison officer
  • Common assault
  • Domestic violence
  • Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH)
  • Kidnapping and hostage taking
  • Riot
  • Violent disorder

Many of the team are Welsh speakers and able to conduct cases in Welsh and they work particularly closely with public authorities in Wales including North Wales CPS.

The team also acts for individuals predominantly through instructing solicitors with whom they work closely to co-manage cases, prepare defence statements, undertake conferences and advocate at trials with or without solicitors present.

Our barristers have particular expertise in dealing with vulnerable individuals in both prosecution and defence cases, taking a sensitive approach to cross examination where appropriate to take into account the needs of such individuals. The team is particularly recognised for its strength in domestic violence cases, often involving vulnerable clients whose emotional needs are supported during the conduct of the case.

Many of the barristers at Linenhall Chambers take both prosecution and defence cases and their broad experience on both sides of such cases enables them to take a fully rounded view in order to achieve the best possible outcome for clients.

Linenhall Chambers has a leading criminal team helping clients in North and Mid Wales, Cheshire and Merseyside but their high levels of experience and expertise mean they are well placed to help clients from across England and Wales.
