Life term for ferocious hammer attack murder

Linenhall barristers John Philpotts and Sarah Badrawy prosecuted John Garner of Penyffordd who was accused of murdering his wife. John Philpotts told the jury of the sustained and ferocious hammer attack by Mr. Garner before he called 999 to tell them “I’ve murdered my missus”.

The trial at took place at Mold Crown Court and following a successful prosecution Mr. Garner was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to a life term serving a minimum of 22 years in prison.

At the sentencing hearing Judge Rhys Rowlands stated: “It was in any view a cowardly, brutal and sustained assault on a defenceless woman”
