Linenhall Chambers Criminal Barristers recognised in leading Chambers UK Bar 2022 rankings

The Chambers and Partners 2022 edition was released on the 21st October 2021.  Two of our Linenhall Chambers Criminal  Barristers have achieved a band 3 ranking which we are extremely proud of.   The Linenhall Crime Practice Group achieved a Band 2 ranking.

The independent guide to the UK’s top sets of barristers chambers uses over 200 Research Analysts, across 200 jurisdictions to produce the tables.  They collect their client responses through a number of means but mostly through in-depth interviews.

In the latest edition the guide stated:

“Based in Chester, this respected set comes highly recommended for its strong practice in criminal matters.  Its barristers regularly prosecute and defend cases relating to homicides, sexual offences and organised crime, as well as financial crime.”

Owen Edwards,  head of the Criminal Team, who’s recent work included prosecuting Barry Bennell, a youth coach who was accused of a multitude of sexual offences gained, praised from the guide as  “an experienced junior who prosecutes and defends serious criminal cases.  He has considerable experience in cases involving homicides, serious sexual offences and drug conspiracies’  and has ‘ a very good reputation.”

Simon Rogers, who recently defended a man accused of shooting a pensioner with a crossbow outside his home, wins praise for his “impressive criminal practice.”  He is called upon to prosecute and defend cases relating to homicide, large-scale drugs conspiracies and sexual offences.

The report highlights Simon as:

“An excellent barrister. You can relax when he is in a case, knowing that there will be no difficulty or drama from him.”

“He has a sharp mind for digital cases. He is approachable and always responds immediately.”

The report also made particular reference to our criminal clerks, which demonstrates the Linenhall ethos of working as one team to provide a seamless service for our clients.

“The clerking service is excellent. Both senior criminal clerk Gareth Stickels and Ryan Turner are approachable and extremely proactive.  Any query is responded to immediately and if any issues arise they more often than not accompany the issue with a suggested solution.”

Commenting on the latest achievement, Gavin Wright, Chambers Director, said: “ Everyone at Linenhall Chambers are proud of what we have achieved this year, and this recognition demonstrates the strength and depth of expertise in our Criminal Team, both Barristers and Clerks.”
