Senior Family Clerk

Main purpose of the role:

We are a leading set of Barristers’ Chambers based in Chester, with an outstanding reputation across crime, family, and civil law. Many of our barristers are recognised and ranked within Chambers and Partners and Legal 500, and our specialist practice teams are acknowledged as leaders in their respective fields.

The family team of 26 barristers, including leading counsel, covers the full spectrum of family law, involving children, families, and finance and are instructed across Wales, the North West and the Midlands. The team is thriving and having experienced significant growth, is now seeking to recruit an additional clerk to develop further.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

The Role

You will work closely with the Senior Family Clerk and other team members, to ensure a smooth and comprehensive clerking service for all barristers and their clients.
Key Responsibilities

Point of contact: Serve as the primary contact for all clients and prospective clients, advising on appropriate counsel, their availability, and fee negotiations.

Diary management: Ensure close liaison between clerks, barristers, clients and the court service, acting promptly to resolve issues.

Business development: Maintain relationships with a network of clients and contacts, report potential new business opportunities to the Senior Family Clerk and the Chambers Director and to participate in events and initiatives as required.

Professionalism: Demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of the role

What we are looking for in a successful candidate

The successful candidate will possess ambition and drive, together with excellent organisational and communication skills. They should be capable of using their own initiative and working independently, whilst thriving in a busy and supportive team environment.

Ideally, the candidate will have clerking experience and a comprehensive understanding of managing barristers’ practices. However, we also welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills gained in similarly fast-paced environments.

Renumeration:

£25K-£45k plus benefits
