Anna Pope secures conviction in Anglesey crossbow murder

Anna Pope, led by Peter Rouch QC, secures conviction in barbaric crossbow murder. After a six week trial at Mold Crown Court, the jury found Terence Whall, 39, guilty of the ‘medieval-style’ murder of Gerald Corrigan, 74. Terence Whall targeted Gerald Corrigan as he adjusted his satellite dish outside his house in Anglesey, in the early hours of 19 April 2019. The assassin used a cross-bow from 10 metres away from his victim, and the bolt passed completely through Mr. Corrigan’s body, causing irreparable internal damage (including bruising the heart). Coutts successfully defends footballer Sean Merryweather

James Coutts of Linenhall Chambers successfully defended footballer Sean Merryweather who was accused of GBH after breaking an opponent’s leg in a “flying kick” during a match. Mr. Merryweather denied grievous bodily harm and the trial was held at Mold Crown Court. Team Linenhall complete Tough Mudder to raise over £3000 for Muscular Dystrophy UK

A team of barristers and staff from Linenhall Chambers completed the Tough Mudder challenge on Saturday. Linenhall barristers appointed as Recorders

Linenhall are proud to announce that two of our barristers, Nicholas Williams and Anna Pope, have been appointed as Recorders. The Queen has appointed 159 Recorders on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, The Right Honourable Robert Buckland QC MP, and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, The Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon. Former international footballer sentenced to 10 weeks in prison

Clare Bate of Linenhall Chambers prosecuted Dean Saunders, a former premier league and international football player, for failing to provide a breath specimen after being stopped by police while driving his vehicle in Chester. Mr Saunders, 53, a father of three was said to be unsteady on his feet and slurring his speech when he was pulled over by the police in May 2019. He failed to provide a breath specimen at the roadside and again at the police station. After initially pleading not guilty to two charges brought against him, Mr Saunders decided on the morning of his trial, to plead guilty. He was sentenced to 10 weeks in custody. … Read More

Life term for ferocious hammer attack murder

Linenhall barristers John Philpotts and Sarah Badrawy prosecuted John Garner of Penyffordd who was accused of murdering his wife. John Philpotts told the jury of the sustained and ferocious hammer attack by Mr. Garner before he called 999 to tell them “I’ve murdered my missus”. The trial at took place at Mold Crown Court and following a successful prosecution Mr. Garner was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to a life term serving a minimum of 22 years in prison.
